It's hard to win baseball games when your starting pitchers get shelled in the 1st inning. That was the case Friday night, as Walker Buehler allowed 7 hits and 7 runs, 5 in the 1st inning, to the New York Yankees. The Red Sox lost 9-6.

Boston's starters have an abysmal 7.06 ERA in the 1st inning.

Buehler allowed a 3-run homer to Jazz Chisholm Jr., his 9th of the season, and then a 2-run homer to  Anthony Volpe, his 8th of the season.

Zack Kelly, Brennan Bernardino and Cooper Criswell combined to allow 2 run in 6 innings, giving up 7 hits. They struck out 8 and walked 1.

The Red Sox made a pair of errors,  and now have committed 57 errors, worst in Major League Baseball.

Marcelo Mayer hit his 1st homer as a big-leaguer, a solo homer in the 5th inning. He ended the night 1-2.

Rafael Devers was 1-4 with a 2-run homer, his 13th of the season, in the 7th inning.

Jarren Duran hit his 7th triple of the season, and was 1-3.

Romy Gonzalez pinch-hit and then went in to play 1st base and was 2-2.

The Red Sox will send Garrett Crochet to the mound on Saturday night, which seems like a must-win game for the Red Sox in their hopes to keep the season alive. They will take on the New York Yankees with the pregame starting at 6:35 and 1st pitch at 7:35 on AM 1370 WDEA. .
