The Boston Red Sox beat the Detroit Tigers 4-3 on Sunday, September 28th in the final game of the 2025 Regular Season. Boston secured the AL 2nd Wild Card position and will open the playoffs Tuesday in New York against the Yankees.

Toronto won the AL East, and the Yankees earned the 1st Wild Card spot. Boston will play the Yankees in the Best of 3 Series with the winner taking on the Blue Jays in the American League Division Series, on Saturday, October 4th. That is a Best of 7 Series.

On Sunday, Jose De Leon called up for the spot start went 6.2 innings for the win for Boston. He allowed 8 hits and 3 runs, striking out 8 and walked 3. It was his 1st major league game since June, 19th 2023.

David Hamilton was 1-3 hitting a 2-run homer in the 4th inning to tie the game. It was his 6th homer of the season.

Masataka Yoshida homered in the 1st inning, his 4th of the season.

Jarren Duran drove in the game-winner with a double. He finishes the regular season with 41 doubles, tied for 3rd in the majors. He drove in a career-high 84 runs batted in, finishing 2nd on the team behind Trevor Story who drove in 96 runs.

Boston's 48 wins at home were the most since 2021, when they had 49 wins at Fenway.
