The Boston Red Sox beat the Seattle Mariners on Friday night, June 22nd 14-10 in a wild game at Fenway Park. The last time Steven Wright and Wade Leblanc faced each other it was a pitcher's duel, with Seattle winning 1-0. Friday night was anything but, as the two pitchers combined to give up 16 runs!

Of the 51 Red Sox wins, 22 of them have been come from behind victories! Friday night was no different, as they overcame a 4 run and a 5 run deficit!

Steven Wright's knuckleball was flat, and the Mariners took advantage. In 3.1 innings the Mariners had 10 hits, and 10 runs. Wright walked 2 and struck out 2. The Red Sox bullpen of Brian Johnson, Matt Barnes, Joe Kelly and Craig Kimbrel was stellar, throwing 5.2 shutout innings and just allowing 4 hits. The relief corps struck out 8 and just walked 1.

JD Martinez was a one man wrecking crew for the Red Sox. He was 4-5 with 2 doubles, a homer, driving in 5 runs and scoring 3! He also stole a base. Martinez is now tied for the Major League lead in home runs with Mike Trout, with 23.

Andrew Benintendi was 2-4 with a RBI, his 50th of the season. He scored 3 runs.  Mitch Moreland was 3-5, scoring 3 runs, and hit his 3rd triple of the season. He also drove in a run. Every Red Sox batter had a hit, with the team banging out 20 in the game.

For the Mariners, Nelson Cruz was a hitting machine, going 4-5 with 2 homers and 7 RBI's.

The Red Sox gained a game on the New York Yankees who lost to Tampa Bay Friday night, 2-1. The Red Sox are now 1 game out of 1st place.

The Boston Red Sox and Seattle Mariners will place the 2nd game of the 3 game series Saturday night. Eduardo Rodriguez takes his 9-1 record to the mound. The pregame starts at 6:30 with the 1st pitch at 7:15 on AM 1370 WDEA.
