The Boston Red Sox beat the Detroit Tigers 9-6 in Detroit on Friday, July 5th as the Red Sox banged out 14 hits and surviving a 2 hour rain delay.

Eduardo Rodriguez was efficient pitching 5 innings before the rain delay. He struck out 4 and walked only 1 while allowing 4 hits and 1 run. Marcus Walden came on after the rain delay and was lit up, getting only 1 out while allowing 4 runs on 2 hits. The Red Sox defense didn't help Walden committing 2 errors.

The Red Sox offense scored 1 run in the 1st, 2 runs in the 3rd and 3 runs in the 6tha nd 8th innings. Rafael Devers hit his 16th homer and Xander Bogaerts his 17th of the season. Mookie Betts was 3-4 with a double. Christian Vazquez, Michael Chavis and Jackie Bradley Jr. each had 2 hits, as every Red Sox player had at least 1 hit.

The win put Boston's record at 47-41. They remain in 3rd place 11 games behind the New York Yankees who beat Tampa Bay in extra innings on Friday night.

The Red Sox will take on Detroit Saturday afternoon with the pregame beginning at 3:10 and 1st pitch at 4:10. Rick Porcello is scheduled to pitch for Boston.
