Suarez Leaves Game Early but Red Sox Beat Angels 7-5 for Sweep [VIDEO]

It was a good news, bad news night for the Boston Red Sox on Sunday, July 6th. The good news was that they beat the Angels 7-5, to sweep the series, behind home runs from Jarren Duran and Willson Contreras. The bad news was that Ranger Suarez left the game after 2.2 innings with left abductor tightness.

Jarren Duran was 2-3 with his 13th home run of the season, a 2-out, 2-run shot in the 2nd inning.

Willson Contreras who continues to play while he appeals his 7-game suspension was 1-4 with a 2-out, 3-run homer in the 3rd inning. The homer was his 20th of the season.

Masataka Yoshida was 3-5.

Tsung-Che Cheng playing shortstop was 2-4.

Suarez who was selected to the All-Star team pitched only 2.2 innings, allowing 6 hits and 3 runs. He struck out 5.

Boston then used 5 pitchers, Greg Weissert, Tyron Guerrero, Garrett Whitlock, Justin Slaten and Aroldis Chapman to pitch the final 6.1 innings. Combined they allowed 3 hits and 2 runs, striking out 8 and walking 1. Weissert picked up the win and is 1-2 while Chapman earned his 18th save.

Boston is now 40-48 and off on Monday, July 6th. They will open a 3-game series at Chicago against the White Sox on Tuesday, July 7th with the pregame starting at 6:40 on WDEA AM 1370.
