The Boston Red Sox had a chance to move into a tie for first place with the New York Yankees, but instead find themselves 2.0 games out of first place, after being shutout by the Yankees Wednesday night, 8-0 in New York.

Rick Porcello took the loss for the Red Sox, going 6.1 innings allowing 8 hits, but 2 of those were home runs. He struck out 5 and walked 2.

Meanwhile C.C Sabathia improved to 7-2 spinning a shutout, pitching 8 innings and allowing just 5 hits, while striking out 5. He didn't walk a batter.

Josh Rutledge had a double and triple for the Red Sox. Chris Young, Xander Bogaerts and Sam Travis each had singles.

Boston and New York play the final game of the 3 game series, and the final game of the Red Sox's 10 game road trip on Thursday night, with the pregame starting at 6:20 PM and first pitch at 7:05 on AM 1370 WDEA.
