The Boston Red Sox staked the Los Angeles Angels to a 3-0 lead in the top of the 1st but then it was all Boston, as the Red Sox defeated the Angels 16-4 Friday night, August 9th at Fenway Park as JD Martinez led the Boston bats, going 4-5 with 2 doubles and 2 home runs, driving in 4.

Boston's bats banged out 14 hits and 5 pitchers held the Angels to just 3 hits.

Brian Johnson started the game for Boston, going 2.2 innings allowing 2 hits, 3 run and walked 2. Albert Pujols hit a 3 run homer off of Johnson.

Marcus Walden picked up the win, he's 7-1 pitching 2.1 innings. He didn't allow a hit, striking out 1. Nathan Eovaldi went 2 innings, allowing 1 run and 1 hit. He struck out 1 and walked 2. Hector Velazquez pitched the 8th striking out a batter and Josh Taylor the 9 inning striking out 2.

Martinez's homers were his 27th and 28th. Mookie Betts blasted his 20th homer, a 2 run shot. Rafael Devers hit his 24th homer and Mitch Moreland hit his 14th homer.

With Betts hitting his 20th homer, he now has hit 20 plus homers in each of the last 4 seasons, and is the 15th Red Sox in club history with at least 4 seasons and 20 plus homers. He leads major league baseball with 106 runs scored.

Devers, who went 2-5 drove in 3 runs and leads the American League with 90 runs batted in.

Xander Bogaerts was 1-4 with a double and leads the American League with 39 doubles.

The Red Sox are now 5 games out of the 2nd wild card spot. They will take on the Angels Saturday afternoon in the 3rd game of the 4 game series.
