Red Sox Pound Yankees 15-7 [VIDEO]
The New York Yankees jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning and led 4-2 after 3 innings, but that was the last time they had the lead, as the Boston Red Sox put up 8 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning, in an at-bat that lasted over 30 minutes! The Red Sox then cruised to a 15-7 win over the Yankees at Fenway, Friday August 2nd in the 1st game of the 4 game series.
The Red Sox banged out 19 hits and stole 4 bases. Steve Pearce had a career night, hitting 3 home runs and driving in 6 runs, walking once. It's the 3rd time a Red Sox player has hit 3 homers in a game, Mookie Betts having done it twice earlier, against the Angels on April 17th and Royals on May 2nd.
Mookie Betts was 4-4, reaching base a career high 6 times. He had 3 singles, a double and walked twice.
Andrew Benintendi had 3 hits (double), JD Martinez had 3 hits with 2 doubles, Ian Kinsler had 3 hits with a double and 2 highlight fielding plays including a play that had first baseman Pearce smiling wondering how he did it.
Jackie Bradley Jr. had a double and it was his dash to home that sparked the 8 run 4th inning.
Brian Johnson pitching in place of ace Chris Sale won the game going 5.0 innings allowing 4 runs on 6 hits. He struck out 11 and walked 2. He gave up homers.
