The Boston Red Sox scored early taking a 3-0 lead in the 1st inning thanks to a JD Martinez homer, and held on to beat the New York Yankees, Friday, October 5th at Fenway Park to take Game 1 of the Best of 5 American League Division Series!

Chris Sale picked up the win for Boston, going 5.1 innings. It was his 3rd career postseason appearance and 1st win! He allowed 5 hits, striking out 8 and walked 2. He was charged with 2 runs when a pair of inherited runners scored in the 6th inning. The 8 strikeouts were tied for the most single game post-season strikeouts by a Red Sox pitcher in the last 10 seasons. John Lackey and Jon Lester did it in 2013.

Craig Kimbrel earned the save, going 1.1 innings. He allowed 1 hit, a solo homer to Aaron Judge in the 9th inning. He struck out 3.

JD Martinez was 2-4 with the homer, driving in 3 runs. Andrew Benintendi was 2-4, scoring 2 runs.  Mookie Betts was 1-3 with a run scored and a double.

The Red Sox and Yankees will play Game 2 Saturday night, with the pregame starting at 7:15PM and 1st pitch at 8:15 on AM 1370 WDEA. The Red Sox will send David Price to the mound and he will face Masahiro Tanaka
