The Boston Red Sox lost to the Cincinnati Reds 6-5 in 11 innings on Saturday, March 28th.

Trailing 5-4, Wilyer Abreu blasted a 2-out homer in the top of the 9th inning, his 1st of the season to tie the game.

Sonny Gray making his 1st start for Boston went 4.0 innings allowing 6 hits and 4 runs, 3 earned, striking out 5 and walking 1.

Greg Weissert pitched the 5th inning, allowing 2 hits and 1 run, striking out 2 and walking 1. Danny Coulombe retired 2 batters, allowing a hit and striking out and walking 1. Ryan Watson pitched 2.1 innings of relie, striking out 3 and walking 1. Aroldis Chapman pitched the 9th inning, striking out 1. Garrett Whitlock pitched the 10th inning, striking out 1. Justin Slaten took the loss, walking 1 and striking out 1, allowing the game-winning single.

Trevor Story hit his 1st home run in the 3rd inning and was 1-5 on the day. Abreu was 2-5, with the homer and a double, driving in 2 runs. Carlos Narvaez was 2-3. Marcelo Mayer had a double. Roman Anthony and Ceddanne Rafaela each had a single.

Boston and Cincinnati combined to challenge CB Bucknor's ball-strike calls 8 times, with 6 of his calls being overturned. The Reds were a perfect 5-5. Boston lost their challenges in the 3rd inning, after 2 unsuccessful challenges.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora, was ejected in the 8th inning, after Bucknor called Trevor Story out on a checked-swing when he refused to ask for help.

Boston and Cincinnati will play the final game of the 3-game series on Sunday afternoon. Connolly Early is scheduled to pitch for the Red Sox. The pregame starts at 12:40 with the 1st pitch at 1:40 on WDEA AM 1370.
