Red Sox Lose to Twins on Wednesday 5-3
The Boston Red Sox lost their exhibition game on Wednesday, March 29th, losing to the Minnesota Twins 5-3. The Red Sox have just 3 Spring Training games remaining before opening the regular season on Monday, April 3rd against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Fenway Park.
Hanley Ramirez was 3-3 and Dustin Pedroia and Xander Bogaerts were each 2-3 batting. Ramirez had a double and Bogaerts and Pablo Sandoval each homered for the Red Sox.
Rick Porcello pitched his final exhibition game before he pitches on Opening Day. He went 4 innings allowing 4 hits, 2 earned runs and struck out 4. Drew Pomeranz took the loss for the Red Sox, going 4 innings, allowing 3 runs, all earned, giving up 5 hits, striking out 4 and walking 2.
The Red Sox will play the Washington Nationals on Thursday and Friday, March 30th and 31st at 1 PM and 4 PM respectively.
Prior to the game Red Sox manager John Farrell said that infielder Josh Rutledge would start the season on the disabled list with a hamstring injury and first baseman Mitch Moreland is being sent home to Boston with the flu.
The Red Sox also reassigned lefty Edgar Olmos to the minor league camp prior to the game this afternoon.
