The Boston Red Sox lost to the Minnesota Twins on Sunday, 5-4 as the bullpen gave up 2 runs in the 7th and 8th innings.

Boston avoided disaster in the 5th inning, when a liner went straight back to Garret Crochet who was able to get his glove up. The ball glanced off of his mitt, and then off his face before the batter was thrown out at 1st. Crochet stayed in the game, and finished the inning. He pitched 5.0 innings allowing 1 run, a homer to Byron Buxton to leadoff the game. Crochet struck out 6 and walked 2 and left with a 3-1 lead.

Garrett Whitclock allowed 2 hits and 2 runs for the blown save. He struck out 3 and walked 1. Justin Slaten took the loss, allowing 3 hits and 2 runs in the 8th inning. He's now 0-3 on the season. Liam Hendriks closed out the game, striking out 1 in the 9th inning.

Wilyer Abreu had 3 of Boston's 7 hits in the game. Abreu, 3-4 had a solo homer in the 8th inning  It was his 7th homer of the season.

Carlos Narvaez was 1-3 with a single driving in 2 runs in the 2nd inning.

Ceddanne Rafaela was 2-4 with a double.

Romy Gonzalez started at 1st and was 1-2 with his 3rd stolen base of the season.

The Red Sox are now 18-18 while the Twins are 15-20. Boston remains in 2nd place, 2 games back from the New York Yankees.

Boston is off on Monday. They will start a 3-game series on Tuesday, May 6th with the Texas Rangers at Fenway. Tuesday's pregame starts at 5:45 with the 1st pitch at 6:45 on AM 1370 WDEA.
