The Boston Red Sox were trailing 4-2 going into the 8th inning against the Los Angeles Dodgers, but tied the game with back to back homers by Xander Bogaerts and JD Martinez. The Red Sox ultimately lost the game in 12 innings, losing 7-4

The Red Sox are 6-4 in extra inning games, and were 5-14 with runners in scoring position.

David Price started the game for Boston, going 5 innings allowing 4 hits and 4 runs, including a 3 run homer around the Pesky Pole in the 1st inning. 6 Red Sox relievers held the Dodgers scoreless and to only 3 hits before Hector Velazquez gave up 3 runs on 2 hits and 2 walks in the 12th inning.

Andrew Benintendi threw out Alex Verdugo at home plate who tried to score in the 11th inning.

Bogaerts was 3-5 with his 20th homer. Mookie Betts was 2-5 with a double. Jackie Bradley Jr. also had a double.

The Red Sox are under .500 at Fenway, where they are 21-24, and have a losing record against teams who are above .500 where they are 19-28.. Boston now is  50-43 and are 10 games back in the American League East and 2 1/2 games behind the Athletics for the second AL Wild Card spot
