The Boston Red Sox lost their Fenway Park home opener to the Minnesota Twins 8-4 on Friday afternoon, April 15th. They have lost their opening game in each of the 1st 3 series of the 2022 season.

Nick Pivetta lost his 2nd game of the season. He lasted just 2 innings, allowing 5 hits and 4 runs. He struck out 2 and walked 2. He gave up a 2-run homer to Miguel Sano in the 2nd inning.

Phillips Valdez came on and pitched 2 innings. He didn't allow a hit, facing 8 batters. He struck out 4 and walked 1. In 3 appearances in 2022 Valdez has pitched 3.2 innings and allowed just 1 hit, striking out 7.

Hirakazu Sawamura pitched 2 innings, allowing 2 hits and 2 runs. He struck out 1 and walked 2.

Ryan Brasier pitched the 7th inning, striking out the side, without allowing a hit or walk.

Austin Davis pitched the 8th, and he too struck out the side, although he allowed a walk.

Matt Barnes pitched the 9th, allowing 1 hit and 2 runs, walking 2

Alex Verdugo hit his 2nd homer of the season, a solo shot in the bottom of the 2nd.

Rafael Devers was 2-4 with a 2-run homer in the bottom of the 8th.

Jackie Bradley Jr. was 2-3 with a bunt single in the 5th inning and a double. It was his 3rd double in 2 games.

The Red Sox and Twins will play game 2 of the 4-game series Saturday afternoon. Tanner Houck is scheduled to start for Boston. Pregame starts at 3:10 with the 1st pitch at 4:10 on AM 1370 WDEA.
