The Boston Red Sox rallied for 4 runs in the top of the 7th inning, but fell just short, losing to the Houston Astros 7-6 on Monday night in Houston.

The Red Sox jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead, as Roman Anthony singled, and then Alex Bregman making his return to Houston for the 1st time, launched a 2-run homer, his 15th of the season. Astro fans cheered Bregman before he came to the plate, but booed each subsequent plate appearance.

Garrett Whitlock, uncharacteristically struggled in his start for the Red Sox. He went 4.0 inning allowing 7 hits and 5 runs. He struck out 5 and walked 1.

Justin Hicks didn't provide much relief, allowing a homer and walking 1, giving up 2 runs in the 5th inning.

Isaiah Campbell pitched the 6th inning, allowing 1 hit, and Garrett Whitlock pitched the 7th and 8th innings, allowing just 1 hit.

In the 7th inning, Abraham Toro who had been scuffling at the plate hit a solo home run with 2 out. It was his 7th homer of the season. Roman Anthony then hit a 2-run homer, his 3rd of the season.

Anthony and Bregman each had a pair of hits. Ceddanne Rafale, Masataka Yoshida and Connor Wong each had a double for the Red Sox.
