Red Sox Fall to Yankees 4-2 to Start Season 0-2 [VIDEO]
The Boston Red Sox lost to the New York Yankees 4-2 on Saturday afternoon, April 9th at Yankee Stadium to start the season 0-2.
Nick Pivetta only allowed 4 hits in 5.2 innings, striking out 4 and walking 3. The problem was that 2 of the hits were a pair of 2-run homers.
Anthony Rizzo tied the score at 2-2 with a 2-run blast in the 4th inning.
That was followed by a 2-run homer by Giancarlo Stanton who homered in the 6th inning. Stanton's homer was his 6th homer in 6 consecutive games against the Red Sox
Boston had taken a 2-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning, thanks to Alex Verdugo's 1st homer of the season.
The Red Sox had some outstanding defensive plays in the loss, including Kike Hernandez robbing Aaron Judge of a home run in the 4th inning
Yankee pitching held Boston to just 5 hits in the game. Trevor Story did have a double, his 1st hit as a Red Sox player in the regular season. Rafael Devers had a double as well
After Pivetta left, Austin Davis, Hirakazu Sawamura and Phillips Valdez combined to hold the Yankees hitless over 2.1 innings.
