Cooper Criswell recalled from Triple A Worcester started for the Red Sox and went 6.0 innings allowing 8 hits and 5 runs, striking out 1 and walking 2.
The Red Sox bats were quieted by the Royal's pitchers, just getting 5 hits.
Ceddanne Rafaela was 2-3 with a RBI double in the 2nd inning and single in the 8th inning.
Jamie Westbrook was 1-3 and doubled in the 2nd inning, scoring Boston's lone run.
