Wilyer Abreu Shines With Two Home Runs Against Cubs

Wilyer Abreu homered twice and Alex Bregman had a 3-run pinch-hit home run as the Boston Red Sox beat the Chicago Cubs 6-1 on Sunday afternoon, July 20th to avoid a sweep and snap their 2 game losing streak.

Abreu hit a 2-run homer in the 7th inning, his 19th of the season to give Boston a 2-1 lead.

Bregman pinch-hitting for Masataka Yoshida, with 1 out, in the 8th inning, hit a 3-run home run, his 12th of the season to give Boston a 5-1 lead.

Abreu then hit a solo homer, his 20th of the season, with 2 out in the 8th inning to make the score 6-1 in favor of the Red Sox. It was his 4th 2-home run game of the season.

Garrett Crochet improved to 11-4 on the season, going 6.0 innings and allowing 8 hits and 1 run. He struck out 5 and walked 2.

Garrett Whitlock pitched the 7th inning, striking out 1. Jordan Hicks pitched the 8th inning, striking out 1 and Jorge Alcala pitched the 9th inning striking out 1.
