Red Sox Bullpen Blows Game Lose to Cleveland 7-5 Tuesday
The Boston Red Sox and Cleveland Indians played the 2nd game of the 3 game series Tuesday night. There was a 1 hour 9 minutes rain delay after the 2nd inning and if you were a Red Sox fan you probably are wishing that they had called the game at that time and played a doubleheader on Wednesday! The Red Sox after leading 5-2 after 8 innings gave up 5 runs in the top of the 9th and lost 7-5 on Tuesday, May 28th.
The loss marred a good start by David Price who threw 6 innings striking out 6 and walking 1. He allowed just 3 hits. Brandon Workman, pitching the 7th inning, didn't allow a run for the 24th time in 27 appearances. Marcus Walden gave up 2 runs getting 1 out in the 8th inning. Matt Barnes got the final 2 outs in the 8th. From there it was all downhill as Ryan Brasier allowed 2 homers and 3 runs, and didn't retire a batter in the top of the 9th. Travis Lakins allowed 2 more runs before retiring the side.
Rafael Devers was 2-5 with a triple. He has tied a Red Sox record, with Dwight Evans in 1982 as he had an extra base hit and scored a run in 8 consecutive games.
Xander Bogaerts was 2-5 scoring 2 runs. He had a double and a RBI. He now leads the Red Sox with 35 RBIs, 16 doubles and 25 extra base hits.
Steve Pearce hit a RBI double in the 8th. JD Martinez was 2-4 with 2 doubles and Michael Chavis was 1-4 with a RBI. He now has 13 RBIs in his last 15 games and 19 in his last 22.
The Red Sox missed an opportunity to gain a game on the New York Yankees who lost to the Padres Tuesday. The Red Sox are now in 4rd place, 6.5 games behind the 1st place Yankees. The Red Sox and Indians will play the final game of the 3 game series Wednesday afternoon with the pregame starting at 5:10 and 1st pitch at 6:10. The Red Sox will then travel to New York to play the Yankees in a 4 game series starting Thursday, May 30th.
