Rafael Devers started the scoring, with a 3 run home run in the first inning. It was Devers' 15th homer of the season.

Nathan Eovaldi went 6.0 innings, picking up his 7th victory and is 7-2 on the season. Eovaldi struck out 7, and didn't walk a batter. He allowed 8 hits including a home run to Aaron Judge, his 14th of the year in the 6th inning.

Hirokazu Sawamura pitched the 7th and 8th innings, striking out 5 in the 2 innings.

Matt Barnes came on in the 9th, striking out the side, for his 13th save in 14 opportunities.

Xander Bogaerts was 2-4 and Marwin Gonzalez was 2-4 including a bases loaded double that drove in 2 runs.

JD Martinez hit his 16th double of the season and finished 1-4

For the Yankees DJ LeMahieu, Aaron Judge and Gleyber Torres each had 2 hits.

Tampa Bay lost to Texas 5-4 and Toronto was blown out by Houston 13-1. The Red Sox wake up Saturday in 2nd place 1.0 game behind Tampa Bay in 2nd place. The Yankees are in 3rd place 4.5 games back and Toronto is in 4th place 5.0 games back.

The Red Sox and Yankees pay game 2 of the 3 game series Saturday night. Eduardo Rodriguez (5-4) is set to start for the Red Sox. Pregame starts at 6:15 with the first pitch at 7:15 on AM 1370 WDEA.
