The Boston Red Sox scored 3 runs in the top of the 10th inning to beat the Detroit Tigers 7-5 on Friday night, August 30th. The Red Sox remain 3.5 games behind the Minnesota Twins for the last wild card spot with 27 games left to play.

Cedanne Rafaela hit a 2-run homer in the top of the 10th to put Boston ahead. The homer was his 14th of the season.

Jarren Duran followed with a solo homer, his 21st of the season as the Red Sox went back-to-back. Duran ended the night 3-5. with a double, his 44th of the season.

Connor Wong hit a 2-out homer in the 6th inning, his 12th of the season. He also doubled to end the night 2-4.

The Red Sox nearly wasted an outstanding start by Tanner Houck. He went 6.0 innings allowing just 3 hits and no runs, striking out 6 and walking 2.

Kenley Jensen picked up the win, after allowing the tying run to score in the 9th inning. He's now 4-2 after blowing his 4th save of the season.  Chris Martin pitched the 10th, for his 2nd save of the season.

Boston and Detroit will play game 2 of the 3 game series Saturday night. The pregame starts at 5:10 with the 1st pitch at 6:10 p.m. on AM 1370 WDEA.
