Red Sox Beat the Rays 9-4 [VIDEO]
A day after being shut-out and nearly no-hit, on Sunday, the Boston Red Sox bats exploded, scoring 7 runs in the 3rd inning, on 3 homers and the Eduardo Rodriguez went 7 strong innings as the Boston Red Sox beat the Tampa Bay Rays 9-4 on Monday, July 22nd.
In the 3rd inning JD Martinez hit a 2 run homer, his 20th of the season. Two batters later Andrew Benintendi hit a homer, his 8th of the season, followed by Sam Travis, his 2nd, as the Red Sox went deep back-to-back.
Benintendi and Martinez each had a double to go along with their home runs. Xander Bogaerts had 2 doubles. Rafael Devers had a double, his 30th of the season. Marco Hernandez had 2 hits. All together the Red Sox had 12 hits.
Rodriguez picked up his 12th win of the season. He allowed only 2 hits, striking out 6 and walking 4. Nathan Eovaldi, the new closer came on in the 8th inning and only got 2 outs, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits. Matt Barnes got the final out of the 8th inning and Josh Taylor pitched the 9th.
The win moves the Red Sox 10 games out of 1st place and 2 games out of the wild card. The Red Sox continue their stretch of 13 games against the Tampa Bay Rays and New York Yankees with the 2nd game of the series in Florida against the Rays.
