The Boston Red Sox beat the Kansas City Royals 3-1 on Sunday afternoon, as Lucas Giolito picked up his first win since 2023.

Giolito went 6.2 innings, allowing just 2 hits and 1 run, striking out 5 and waking 1. He's 1-1 on the season.

Justin Wilson pitched 1.0 inning, striking out 2 and allowing 1 hit. Greg Weissert retired the lone batter he faced. Aroldis Chapman picked up his 6th save of the season, allowing just 1 hit.

Wilyer Abreu hit his 10th home run, a solo shot in the 4th inning, finishing 3-4. Rafael Devers was 2-3, with a home run, his 7th of the season, a 2-run shot in the 6th inning.

Carlos Navaraez had a double

Nick Sogard started at 1st base for the 2nd game in a row, and was 0-4.

Trevor Story and Jarren Duran each had a single.

The Red Sox are 22-20 and in 2nd place in the AL East, 2.0 games behind the New York Yankees. The Red Sox will open a 3-game series at Detroit against the Tigers on Monday, May 12th, with the pregame starting at 5:40 and 1st pitch at 6:40 p.m.
