David Hamilton broke out of his slump, hitting his 1st homer of the season for the game's only run as the Red Sox beat the Tampa Bay Rays 1-0 on Wednesday night.

Hamilton's homer was a line drive to right field in the 3rd inning. He entered the game 1-21 in 9 games.

Romy Gonzalez playing 3rd base in place of Alex Bregman who went on paternity leave, was 1-4 with a double.

Jarren Duran was 1-4 with a double.

Rafael Devers was 1-3. It was Devers' 1000th career game as a Red Sox player and just the 31st player to play 1000 games as a Red Sox.

Sean Newcomb started for the Red Sox and pitched 4.2 innings allowing 4 hits and striking out 4 and walking 2. From there the bullpen was lights-out. Greg Weissert went 1.1 innings, striking out 3 and picked up the win. He's 1-0. Garrett Whitlock pitched 2 innings, allowing 1 hit and striking out 4. Justin Slaten pitched the 9th inning, striking out 2, picking up his 2nd save of the season.

Boston is now 10-10 and in 3rd place in the AL East. Tampa Bay is 8-10 and in 4th place in the AL East.

The Red Sox are off on Thursday.  They will start a 7-game homestand on Friday, April 18th. The Red Sox will play 4 games against the Chicago White Sox April 18-21 including the Patriot's Day game on Monday, April 21st that starts at 11:10 a.m. The Red Sox will then conclude the homestand with 3 games against the Seattle Mariners April 22-24.
