The Boston Red Sox received a strong pitching performance from Rick Porcello and the offense banged out 12 hits, including Mookie Betts 21st homer of the season en route to a 9-1 victory over the Baltimore Orioles, Friday night, August 16th at Fenway Park.

Porcello went 6.0 innings allowing 4 hits, 1 run while striking out 2 and walking 2. Josh Taylor pitched a hitless 7th inning and Travis Lakins pitched the 8th and 9th inning allowing just 1 hit and striking out 3. It was Taylor's 7th consecutive scoreless appearance.

Rafael Devers was 2-4 with a double and RBI. He leads the majors with 162 hits, and gave the Red Sox a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st with a RBI single.

Andrew Benintendi was 3-4, scoring 2 runs and had a single, double, and triple. He also drove in 2 runs.The triple came in the 4th inning driving in a run and the double in the 7th inning, also driving in a run.

Mookie Betts was 2-5 with a double and homer. The home run was his 21st of the season. He leads the majors with 112 runs scored.

Mitch Moreland was 1-2 with a triple, driving in a run.

JD Martinez was 1-2 scoring 2 runs. He had a double and drove in a run.

Chris Owings was 1-2  with a double and 2 RBIS. His 2 run bases loaded pinch hit double in the 6th inning extended the Red Sox' lead to 5-1 and was his 1st hit as a member of the Red Sox.

The Red Sox are now 6.5 games out of the 2nd wild card spot.

The Red Sox will send Eduardo Rodriguez to the mound Saturday night as the Red Sox and Orioles play the 2nd game of the 3 game series. The pregame starts at 6:10 with the 1st pitch at 7:10.
