Mookie Betts blasted a solo homer to start the game and capped off his night with a solo homer in the 15th inning, as the Boston Red Sox kept their playoff hopes alive with a 7-6 win over the Angels in California on Friday night, August 30th.

The game which began at 10:07 East coast time Friday night, didn't end until 3:30 Saturday morning!

Mookie ended the night 3-7, scoring 3 runs. His homers were his 22nd and 23rd of the season.

JD Martinez was 2-5, driving in 3 runs. He had a double, his 29th and hit his 33rd homer of the season, a 2 run shot in the 3rd inning.

Nathan Eovaldi started for Boston going 4 innings, allowing 3 hits and 1 run. He struck out 8 and walked 1. Josh Taylor allowed 2 runs in the 5th inning. Marcus Walden pitched 1.1 inning. Matt Barnes allowed a run in the 7 inning. Ryan Brasier retired 2 batters in the 8th. Brandon Workman got the final out in the 8th but in the 9th allowed 2 runs as he walked 4 batters. Darwinzon Hernandez pitched the 10th and 11th innings before Andrew Cashner pitched the 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th innings, not allowing a hit to pick up the win.

The win allowed the Red Sox to move within 5.5 games of the 2nd and final Wild Card spot. The Red Sox and Angels will play the 2nd game of the 3 game series Saturday night, August 31st.
