Price Heads to Injured Reserve List
Left handed pitcher David Price will likely miss 2 starts, as the Boston Red Sox placed him on the 10 day injured reserve list, Thursday afternoon, August 8th. The move was retroactive to August 5th.
Price underwent an MRI on his left wrist that revealed a TFCC cyst that was treated with a cortisone shot. To fill Price’s spot on the 25-man roster, the club recalled right-handed pitcher Hector Velázquez from Triple-A Pawtucket.
Price has made 21 starts for Boston this season and is 7-5 with a 4.36 ERA (51 ER/105.1 IP). The left-hander most recently pitched on August 4 against the New York Yankees, after being reinstated from the paternity leave list prior to the game.
Velázquez has made 24 appearances (eight starts) for Boston this season, posting a 5.67 ERA (29 ER/46.0 IP). The right-hander has also made six appearances with Pawtucket and owns a 4.05 ERA (3 ER/6.2 IP) with a .217 opponent batting average. He last pitched on August 6, throwing a scoreless inning against the Columbus Clippers with zero hits or walks allowed.
