The Boston Red Sox beat the Detroit Tigers 5-4 on Monday night in Detroit, behind Payton Tolle's 7-inning 1-hitter and Jarren Duran's 3-run homer.

Tolle was brilliant, allowing just 1 hit and 2 unearned runs in 7 innings He struck out 8 and walked 1, needing just 83 pitches. He evened his record at 1-1. It was his 1st career win.

Garrett Whitlock came on after the rain delay and allowed 2 hits and 2 runs, striking out 2 and walking 1.

Aroldis Champman pitched the 9th, striking out 1 and earning his 7th save.

Jarren Duran hit a 3-run homer in the 7th inning, and ended the night 3-5 in the leadoff spot.

Masataka Yoshida was 2-4. He came in for Roman Anthony who left the game after hurting his wrist. Images after the game were negative, but he's headed back to Boston to see a hand specialist.

Ceddanne Rafaela and Marcelo Mayer each had 2 hits.

Trevor Story, Wilyer Abreu and Andruw Monasterio each singled.

Boston is now 14-21 while Detroit is 18-18. The 2 teams will play Tuesday night with the pregame starting at 5:40 and 1st pitch at 6:40 on WDEA AM 1370
