Patriot’s Day – April 19 Government Offices Are Closed [UPDATE]
Today, Monday April 19th is Patriot's Day and Maine is one of only 3 states that celebrate today as a holiday. The others are Massachusetts, which is a no-brainer and Wisconsin, which is a bit odd. Patriot's Day commemorates the anniversary of the Battles of Lexington and Concord, the first battles of the American Revolutionary War.
Today is a State holiday and some banks are closed. The Post Office is open and will be delivering mail as it's not a federal holiday. Schools are closed, as they're on April vacation, but even year-round staff have the day off today.
Enjoy the day off if you don't have to work or go to school. ! The Boston Red Sox will be playing their annual Patriot's Day Game, which starts at 11:10 a.m. with the pregame beginning at 10:10 a.m. on AM 1370 WDEA. The game has the early start because of the Boston Marathon which runs by Fenway Park. Unfortunately this year, like last, the Marathon will not be held because of COVID, Officials with the Marathon have rescheduled 2021's date to October 11th. In case you're planning on running or watching both the Boston and MDI Marathon, the MDI Marathon is scheduled for Sunday, October 17th.
Correction - Earlier posts had all banks closed. Sorry bank employees, just some are closed. The rest of you get to work!
