One of the Best Things About Broadcasting High School Basketball for a Long-Long Time

It's hard to remember when WDEA first started broadcasting basketball games again. I think it might have been 2006, so this would mean this is my 18th year of broadcasting the games. What began with 12 games back in 2006, and just doing Ellsworth and MDI home games has turned into over 50 games a year, with trips up to Aroostook County and to Washington County.

I have had the privilege of watching the Ellsworth and MDI children grow from young children, coming to the games to root on their older siblings, to playing for the Eagles and Trojans and heading off to college.

I love to see how they're doing in college and really appreciate when they come back and say "Oh Hi!" during Christmas vacation. It's been amazing to see many of them come back and accept teaching and coaching jobs in the Ellsworth area and on the Island.

I was looking back on my Facebook memories and came upon these pictures of Sydney Mason from 2015. She loved coming on air with me during the Ellsworth games. Now a sophomore on the Eagle's basketball team, I'm sure I'll have her on-air with me post-game this season!

Hopefully she won't become "mic-shy" now that she is in high school, because she certainly wasn't when she was little!

We kick off our basketball schedule on Thursday, December 5th. All the games will be on WDEA AM 1370, online at WDEA Internet Radio and you can also hear the games on the WDEA APP and on any Alexa enabled device. We will start our broadcasts with the pregame 15 minutes before the schedule tipoff.
