In the school's nomination of Olivia for the Maine Administrators of Career and Technical Education Student of the Year they said

Olivia Leighton is a remarkable  member of  the Health Occupations program at HCTC. She embodies the qualities desired in a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), future Nurse, and she aspires to be a flight nurse on Lifeflight one day. Her enthusiasm for the program was evident even during her middle school years when she attended camp, and it remains just as strong today. Her dedication to healthcare, commitment to learning, and passion for people and this school consistently exceed teachers' expectations. As a natural leader, Olivia combines kindness with efficiency, always willing to assist her peers in their educational journeys. Olivia has devoted countless hours to Health Occupations and HCTC. Over the past year, she successfully organized two middle school camps, two babysitting camps, and two bake sales. Additionally, she dedicated three days to sorting and organizing storage and the classroom at HCTC. As president of the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS), Olivia has initiated several community collections. She also took on a leadership role during screenings at the elementary school ,collaborating closely with the school nurse. Olivia is a 3 time state cheering champion and is on both the National Honor Society and National Science Honor  Society. Last year Olivia was a gold medalist in the CNA competition at SkillsUSA and attended nationals and this year is the gold medalist for  Basic Healthcare Skills .Currently, Olivia works as a CNA in Home Health Care, She is amazing with patients and gives all of herself when caring for them. In the community , Olivia was recognized as helping an individual in need in an emergent situation. She was very humble about this but as a teacher it was a very proud moment . A few times Olivia has been chosen to speak both on the radio and in promotional video to promote CTE and HCTC.. While doing all of this Olivia is a Bridge Student. Olivia is a proud member of this program. Olivia will be going to the University of Maine , Orono in the fall for a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing.
