Old Town Boys Beat Ellsworth 64-52 [STATS]

The Old Town Boys Basketball Team reminded Class B that it's not just Orono and Ellsworth battling for the Northern Maine title with a 64-52 over the Ellsworth Eagles at Mackenzie Gymnasium in Old Town on Thursday, January 4th.

Ellsworth jumped out to a 16-10 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter. Old Town tied the score at 26-26 at the end of the 1st half, on a 40 foot basket by Aiden Gomm at the buzzer.

Old Town then went on a 12-2 run to start the 3rd Quarter and took a 41-34 lead.  Ellsworth was able to cut the lead to 3 points with just over a minute left. But Ellsworth's Chance Mercier was assessed with a double technical and Grayson Thibeault sank all 4 free throws.

Old Town was led by Aiden Gomm with 18 points and Emmitt Byther had 17 points. Grayson Thibeault had 15 points. Old Town sank 7 3-pointers in the game. Aiden Gromm had 4 3-pointers and Brendan Mahaney had 3 3-pointers. The Coyotes were 11-18 from the free throw line.

Ellsworth was led by Chance Mercier with 28 points. Miles Palmer had 7 points. Mercier had 3 3-pointers and Palmer 1 3-pointer. The Eagles were a near-perfect 12-13 from the free throw line.

Old Town is now 7-0 and will travel to Bar Harbor to play MDI on Saturday, January 6th at 5:30 p.m.

Ellsworth is now 6-2. They will host Houlton on Saturday, January 6th at 3:30 p.m. That game will be broadcast on AM 1370 WDEA, on WDEA Internet Radio, on our free downloadable APP and on any Alexa enabled device with the pregame starting at 3:15 p.m.
