MDI YWCA Announces Woman of the Year, Young Woman of the Year and Girl of the Year
The MDI YWCA asked the public to nominated woman, young woman and girls for their Women of Distinction Awards Night which will be held on Friday, October 5th. After receiving 32 nominations, the YWCA has selected their Woman of the Year, Young Woman of the Year and Girl of the Year.
Woman of the Year - Carol Johnston has for many years helped others in her community by volunteering as a driver for Island Connections, at the Bar Harbor Food Pantry, delivering Meals for Me, and working at the Church of Our Father in Hulls Cove.
Young Woman of the Year - Paige Nygaard actively works with Homecare for All, teaching others about this ballot initiative, and leads workshops on equality issues at College of the Atlantic.
Girl of the Year - MacKenzie Miller possesses a dedicated commitment to a variety of social justice issues, and organized and raised funds so that MDI High School students could go to this year's March for Our Lives in Boston.
These 3 will be honored Friday, October 5th from 6-8PM at Kebo Valley Golf Club. The keynote speaker will be Gia Drew, a speaker and advocate for Equality Maine.
Suggested donation is $25/person which includes: two drink tickets, heavy appetizers There will also be a silent auction of books by women authors.
