
#3 Caribou Beats #11 MDI 2-1 with 2 Goals in Last Minute
The #11 MDI Boy's Soccer Team nearly pulled off an upset up in Caribou, on Wednesday, October 29th, until the #3 Caribou Vikings scored 2 goals in the last minute of the game to win the Class B North Quarterfinals 2-1.
On Wednesday, October 29th, the #3 seed Caribou Vikings scored two goals in the final 28 seconds of their Boys Class B Quarterfinal to shock the #11 seed MDI Trojans 2-1.
For most of this quarterfinal matchup, the Trojans stifled the high scoring Vikings, keeping the game scoreless.
With just under 6 minutes remaining in the 2nd half, MDI's Sebastian Cullen tipped a direct kick to Colin Sullivan, who rolled a shot into the goal for the 1-0 lead.
With under a minute to go, a Viking's corner kick by Louie Hebert was headed in by Declan Miller to knot the game at 1-1 with only 28 seconds remaining.
After the ensuing MDI kickoff, Caribou regained possession and Carsen Richards sent a long lead pass from midfield towards the MDI goal. Owen Corrigan raced onto the ball, and tapped the ball past the Rykin Hamor the MDI goal keeper with just 11 seconds on the clock for the improbable 2-1 lead.
MDI's bid to tie the game on a direct kick hit the outside of the Caribou net as time expired.
With the victory, the Vikings record now improve to 11-3-1, and they move on to the Class B North Semifinals against #2 Oceanside on Saturday, November 2. The MDI Trojans end their season in heart-breaking fashion with a record of 10-6.
