The MDI Trojans Softball Team picked up a Heal Point worthy victory over the Ellsworth Eagles, 8-4 in Ellsworth on Monday, May 13th.

 

Ellsworth scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 1st but MDI battled back, scoring 2 runs in the top of the 2nd to make it 3-2 Eagles. Ellsworth would add 1 more run in the bottom of the 3rd, but MDI scored 4 runs in the top of the 5th inning, to make it 6-4 Trojans and added 2 insurance runs in the top of the 7th inning to make the final score 8-4.

Lindsey McEachern pitched a complete game for the Trojans for the win. She allowed 7 hits and all the runs were unearned. She struck out 12 and walked 2.

Tyler Hellum threw 4.1 innings, allowing 7 hits and 6 runs, although just 2 were earned. She struck out 6 and didn't walk a batter. Kenzie Chipman came on in relief, throwing the final 2.2 innings allowing 4 hits and 2 runs, striking out 1 and walking 1.

For MDI Mackenzie Dyer was 3-4 from the plate. Lindsey McEachern had 2 singles. Ruby Brown had a double and single. Hannah Chamberlain, Leah Carrol, Olivia Gray and Hannah Hanscom each singled for the Trojans. McEachern and Maddie Neal each stole a base.

For Ellsworth Trinity Montigny was 3-4 at the plate. Katie Hammer had 2 singles. Sara Shea had a double and Ellie Clarke had a single.

MDI is now 5-5 and in playoff contention, currently in 13th place. Weather permitting they are scheduled to play host to Belfast on Tuesday, May 14 at 4:30

Ellsworth is now 7-2 and will play host to undefeated Brewer 9-0, on Thursday, May 16th at 4:30 (although games have been starting early). That game will be broadcast on AM 1370 WDEA, on WDEA Internet Radio, on our free downloadable APP and on any Alexa enabled device.
