MDI Rallies Past Caribou 67-65

The MDI Boys Basketball Team rallied late to defeat Caribou 67-65 at Bernard Parady Gymnasium in Bar Harbor on Thursday December 27th. Drew Shea went 2-2 from the free throw line with 1:21 left to tie the score 65-65 and then scored the winning basket as time expired after the Trojans took possession and had to go the length of the court with about 18 seconds remaining in the game.

MDI had gone out on a 10-0 run to start the game, but Caribou fought back and MDI led 18-13 at the end of the 1st Quarter. Derek Collin and Drew Shea each had 7 points for the Trojans in the 1st Quarter, with Shea adding a 3-pointer. Brett Duley and Eli Parady each had 2 points. For Caribou, Michael Brigman had 2 3's, Isaac Marker a 3-pointer and Alex Bouchard and Austin Findlin 2 points each.

Caribou outscored MDI 20-12 in the 2nd Quarter to take a 33-30 lead at the end of the 1st Half. Sawyer Deprey had 6 points for the Vikings, Findlin and Bouchard had 4 points, Brigman had another 3-pointer and Tharen Hand added a 3-pointer. For MDI Charlie Parker had a 3-pointer, Collin had 3 points and Duley, Erik Merchant and Shea 2 points each.

In the 3rd Quarter Caribou stretched their lead to as many as 11 points, before taking a 7 point lead 56-49 at the end of the 3rd Quarter. Marker and Findlin each had 9 points in the Quarter for the Vikings including a 3-pointer. Sawyer Deprey had a 3-pointer and Parker Deprey had 2 points. For MDI Collin had 10 points including a 3-pointer, Shea 5 points, and Parady 4 points.

In the 4th Quarter MDI outscored Caribou 18-9. Collin had 7 points including a 3-pointer. Shea 6 points, Merchant 4 points and Parady 1 point. In the 4th Quarter MDI was 7-9 from the free throw line. For Caribou Marker and Sawyer Depry each had a 3-pointer, Brigman 2 points and Findlin 1 point.

MDI was led by Derek Collin with 27 points and Drew Shea with 20 points. MDI was 15-19 from the free throw line.

Caribou had 4 players in double figures with Findlin leading the way with 16 points. Marker had 15 points, Sawyer Deprey 12 points and Brigman 11 points. The Vikings sank 9 3's and were 3-5 from the free throw line.

MDI is now 5-1 and will play Presque Isle on Friday, December 28th at home at 2:30PM in a game that will be broadcast on AM 1370 WDEA, on WDEA Internet Radio, on our free downloadable APP and on any Alexa enabled device.

Caribou is now 3-3 and will play at Ellsworth on Friday December 28th at 2:30PM.
