A group of parents have rallied together to make sure the MDI High School Class of 2020 can enjoy Senior Week, despite the restrictions placed upon everyone because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Here is what is planned

You can join the Facebook Group "Blow Up the Sky Senior Week". Fundraising is still going on, as the parent's group have an ambitious goal of collecting $5000.

Monday, June 1st and Tuesday, June 2nd
All students and faculty are invited to visit the lawn signs placed at the high school entrance and write messages to graduating seniors on the back of the signs. Please bring your own Sharpie marker for this. Please no graffiti and practice social distancing measures at all times. You have all week to stop by. Graduates will be collecting signs after graduation on Sunday.

Wednesday, June 3rd
Mother’s Kitchen – Town Hill is providing free boxed lunches for MDI HS 2020 Seniors. To order call 288-4403 or order in person. Please order off the "2020 Senior Menu". This can be viewed on their website motherskitchenfoods.com, or if ordering in person, make sure to say that you’re a senior, and they will show you your special menu. Thank Tasha and crew when you pick up your tasty treats!

Thursday, June 4th
Hatsana says, “Congrats, Grads!” Call in to Siam Orchid in Bar Harbor, 288-9669, for a complimentary meal. Let them know you are a MDI HS 2020 Grad and make sure to thank Hatasana and crew for your meal. Just a reminder to wear a mask when you head into Siam Orchid to pick up your meal.

Friday, June 5th
Seniors are invited to Pirate's Cove for a FREE Round of golf (your token is in the envelope) and FREE Ice Cream at Udder Heaven. No more than 50 people are allowed to be on premise at Pirate's Cove at the same time, so please plan for that. Please stagger your mini golfing to between 4:30 – 7:00 p.m. (The course closes at 7PM.) After mini golf, hop on over to see Bob at Udder Heaven for a complimentary ice cream. Make sure to let him know you are a MDI HS 2020 Senior. Please give a big thank you to these businesses for their generosity. Just a reminder to practice social distancing and wear a mask while at these establishments.

Saturday, June 6th
Seniors, their families, and faculty members are invited to a Drive-in Senior Slide Show in the parking lot of the Beacon Bar and Grill in Trenton at 8:30 pm. Please help support this business by perhaps calling in an order ahead of time to enjoy tailgate style during the slideshow. Bring your own chairs that can be set outside your car. Again, be observant of social distancing at all times and bring your mask if at times social distancing is not possible. The slide show will run for about an hour.

Sunday, June 7th
All graduates are being asked to meet at your local elementary schools at 4:00 p.m. (Actual location spots may change. Please check back to confirm gathering location)
Bar Harbor – Bar Harbor Ballfield or Kebo Valley Golf Course
Southwest Harbor – Pemetic Elementary School
Tremont & Offshore Islands – Tremont Consolidated School
Mount Desert & Offshore Islands –Northeast Harbor Marina
Trenton – Trenton Elementary School
Lamoine – Lamoine Consolidated School
Hancock – Hancock Grammar School
An escorted motorcade will lead graduates in vehicles to the high school. Community members, family and classmates are welcome to line the main routes along the way with signs and noise makers. Let’s show our love for our graduating seniors.
Grand Finale – Central Maine Pyrotechnics will be providing a festive send off to all seniors. This is open to all the Mount Desert Island community. Fireworks will be launched from Somes Sound, Mount Desert. Fireworks will begin at 9:45 p.m. Priority viewing will be given to seniors and their families. The "Senior Families Only" viewing points are John Williams Boatyard and Abel’s Lobster Pound. Others can watch from any spot that has a view of Somes Sound. The sound provides an easy inlet if you should choose to come by boat as well. Just a reminder-- for those that exit their vehicles, be sure to practice social distancing of at least 6 ft and wear a mask to protect yourself and others.
