The MDI Girl's Soccer Team went to East Machias on Wednesday, September 16th and came away with a 8-0 victory.

Opal Curless had a hat trick with 3 goals. Adriana Novella scored 1, Paige Mason scored 1, as did Ally Bender. Scoring their first high school goals were Rachel Jacobs and Maya Watras!

Opal Curless scored the first goal with 19:35 in the first half and registered her second hat trick of the season and had two assists. At 17:38, Paige Mason netted her first goal of the season with a bending ball taken from 22 yards out. Three minutes later, Adriana Novella added another goal with a shot from the right flank. Maya Watras recorded her first career goal with 1:53 left in the first half with a volley from the 10 yard line . That made it 4-0 at the half

Two minutes into the second half, Curless netted her second goal of the game from the left side of the box. At 29:00 mark, Ally Bender followed in on a shot and beat Raider goalie Hannah Atcherson and knocked the ball in the back of the net. Curless' third goal of the game came with 10 minutes left in the game with an assist by Ellie Bridgers. Rachel Jacobs recorded her first career goal from a Lily Turner assist by out racing a Raider defender and beating Atcherson with seven minutes remaining in the game.

Julianna Cleaves recorded the shutout for MDI.

With the victory, MDI is now 4-1 on the season, and plays at Hermon on Saturday, September 19th at 1 PM.

Washington Academy is now 2-2-1 and plays at Sumner on Wednesday, September 23rd at 4 PM.
