The MDI Girls Basketball Team escaped Katsiaficas Gymnasium with a win, 45-23 over the Ellsworth Eagles in the last game of the regular season. The Trojans had 4 of their 5 starters on the bench in the 2nd Quarter, each with 2 fouls but then exploded in the 3rd Quarter, outscoring Ellsworth 17-2 to come away with the victory.

In the 1st Quarter MDI was up 11-6. Julia Watras and Rachelle Swanson each had 4 points for MDI and Maddy Candage had 3 points. For Ellsworth Kayla Duhaime, Sierra Andrews and Sara Shea each had 2 points.

In the 2nd Quarter, Ellsworth outscored MDI 8-5 to make the score 16-14 at the end of the 1st Half. For Ellsworth the key was making their foul shots, as MDI was in foul trouble. Ellsworth was 4-7 from the foul line. Shea had 4 points, Alicia Kelley 2 points and Trinity Montigny and Autumn Paul were each 1-2 from the free throw line. For MDI Leah Carroll and Rachelle Swanson each had 2 points and Olivia Gray was 1-2 from the free throw line.

In the 3rd Quarter MDI's starters were back in, and went on a scoring burst. Julia Watras had 6 points, Maddy Candage 5 points, Alexis Clarito 4 points with a 3-pointer and Rachelle Swanson 2 points. For Ellsworth Kylie Robidoux had 2 points.

In the 4th Quarter MDI outscored Ellsworth 12-7. Watras had 4 more points and then Clarito, Carroll,  Candage and Gray each had 2 points. For Ellsworth Sierra Andrews had a 3-pointer and Robidoux and Samantha Higgins each had 2 points.

MDI was led by Julia Watras with a game high 14 points. Maddy Candage had 10 points. MDI was 4-8 from the free throw line

Ellsworth was led by Sara Shea  with 6 points and Sierra Andrews had 5 points. The Eagles were 4-9 from the free throw line.

With the victory, MDI finishes the regular season with a 16-2 record and 1st in the Class B North Heal Point Standings. They will play on Saturday, February 16th at 4:35 PM at the Cross Insurance Center against the winner of the 8-9 prelim game on Tuesday February 12th.

Ellsworth finishes the season with a 13-5 record. They are currently in 5th place, but if Winslow beats MCI tonight, Thursday, February 7th, Winslow will finish 5th in the Heal Points and receive an automatic bye. If Winslow loses, Ellsworth will finish 5th. If Ellsworth finishes 6th, they would play a prelim game at home in Ellsworth, on Tuesday, Februaary 12th against the 11th seed, which would either be John Bapst or Orono.

Last night's game was the last regular season game for Senior Addreanna Seavey.
