The MDI Girls Soccer Team won their 1st game of the season, defeating George Stevens Academy 5-0 at Alumni Field under the lights on Monday, October 19th.

Lelia Weir started the scoring for MDI with just 1:56 elapsed scoring with 38:04 left in the 1st Half.

Weir then made it 2-0 with a blast from around 35 yards out, that just flew in under the crossbar.

The 1st Half ended with MDI up 2-0, and the Trojans outshot the Eagles 18-4.

In the 2nd Half, Sabine Costello-Sanders who normally plays goal, went into midfield. That move paid off, as Costello-Sanders, one of the tri-captains scored off a rebound with the assist going to Gaia Daul with 28:11 remaining in the game.

Emma Freudig, another tri-captain, scored with 7:26 remaining off a rebound of a shot by Weir, the 3rd tri-captain.

Freudig, scored the final goal of the night, with 1:42 remaining, on a header off of a corner kick by Weir.

MDI ended with 40 shots on net, while GSA had 6. Haley Leonardi started in net for MDI with Costello-Sanders replacing her late in the 2nd Half. Jenna Blodgett was in net for GSA

MDI was scheduled to play Searsport on Wednesday, October 21st at 4:30, but because of the COVID-19 breakout in Waldo County, that game has been cancelled. The Trojans are next back in action on Friday, October 23rd when they will play Ellsworth at Del Luce Stadium at 5:45 p.m. That game will be broadcast on AM 1370 WDEA, on WDEA Internet Radio, on our free downloadable APP and on any Alexa enabled device. That game will also be livestreamed on the Ellsworth High School You Tube Page.
