MDI Girls Run By Orono 59-23 [PHOTOS]

The MDI Girls Basketball Team ran out to a 22-5 lead in the 1st Quarter and beat the Orono Red Riots 59-23 in Bar Harbor on Friday, January 10th

MDI went out to a 22-5 lead hitting 4 3's, with their first 3 baskets being 3-pointers. Leah Carroll and Elena Alderman each had 7 points with a 3-pointer each and Olivia Gray had 2 3-pointers for 6 points. Emily Carter had 2 points. For Orono Ellie Peirce had the Red Riots' 5 points.

In the 2nd Quarter MDI outscored Orono 17-1 to take a 39-6 lead at the end of the 1st Half. Orono's Peirce scored the point going 1-2 with 4.6 seconds remaining in the Half. Leah Carroll had 9 points for MDI with a 3-pointer. Emily Carter had a 3-pointer and Olivia Gray had 2 points while Elizabeth Jones was 2-4 from the free throw line and Rachelle Swanson was 1-2 from the free throw line.

MDI increased the lead, outscoring Orono 9-5 in the 3rd Quarter to increase the lead 48-11. Olivia Gray had 3 points, Elizabeth Jones 2 points, going 2-2 from the foul line and Emily Carter and Leah Carroll each had 2 points. For Orono Clarise Bell had a 3-pointer and Ellie Peirce had 2 points.

In the 4th Quarter Abbie Farley, m.Olivia Joyce and Hannah Joy each scored their 1st varsity points for MDI, each scoring 2 points. Grace Witham had 4 points and Olivia Gray was 1-2 from the foul line. Clarise Bell had 5 points for Orono with a 3-pointer, Izzy Baker had a 3-pointer and Ellie Peirce and Hannah Sinclair each had 2 points.

MDI was led by Leah Carroll with 18 points and Olivia Gray had 12 points. The Trojans were 7-12 from the free throw line.

Orono was led by Ellie Peirce with 10 points while Clarise Bell had 8 points. Orono was 4-9 from the free throw line.

MDI is now 8-3 and will play host to Old Town on Tuesday, January 14th at 7 p.m.in a game that will be broadcast on AM 1370, on WDEA Internet Radio, on our free downloadable APP and on any Alexa enabled device.

Orono is now 2-9 and will play host to John Bapst on Tuesday, January 14th at 7 p.m.
