MDI Girls Open with a 61-47 Win In Old Town [PHOTOS/STATS]

The MDI Girls Basketball Team opened the 2017-18 Season with a 61-47 win in Old Town against the Coyotes.

At the end of the 1st Quarter MDI led 14-12. Julia Watras had 5 points, Emily Banks 4 points, Hannah Chamberlain a 3-pointer for 3 points and Maddy Candage 2 points for the Trojans. For Old Town Janessa Brown had 3 points as did Hannah Richardson on a 3-pointer. Mackenzie Folsom, Corrine Saucier and Claudia Damboise each had 2 points for the Coyotes.

In the 2nd Quarter MDI outscored Old Town 15-11 to take a 29-23 lead at the end of the 1st Half, although Old Town took a brief lead early in the 2nd Quarter. For MDI Banks had 4 points, Candage had 3 points, Chamberlain drained another 3-pointer and Watras, and Maddy Good each had 2 points. Alahna Mild went 1-2 from the free throw line for MDI. Old Town was led by Richards with 5 points, Damboise had 4 points and Brown 2 points.

In the 3rd Quarter MDI stepped up their defense and went on a 8-0 run before Richards hit a 3-pointer for Old Town. In the Quarter, MDI outscored Old Town 19-10 to take a 48-33 lead. In the Quarter, Good and Watras each had 6 points for MDI. Alexis Clarito hit a 3-pointer while Banks and Candage each had a basket. For Old Town Richards had 8 points including 2 3-pointers and Olivia Albert and Damboise each had 2 points.

In the 4th Quarter Old Town outscored MDI 14-13 but were never able to cut the deficit to less than 10 points. For the Coyotes in the 4th Quarter Saucier had 2 3-pointers Richardson had a 3-pointer, Brown had 2 points and Albert 1 point. For MDI Watras had 4 points, Banks and Chamberlain 3 points with Chamberlain hitting her 3rd 3-pointer of the night. Candage had 2 points and Good 1 point.

MDI was led by Julia Watras with 17 points, Emily Banks had 13 points and Maddy Good, Maddy Candage and Hannah Chamberlain each had 9 points. MDI was 13-26 from the free throw line.

Old Town was led by Hannah Richardson who had a game high19 points. Corrine Saucier and Claudia Damboise each had 8 points. Old Town was 7-14 from the free throw line.

MDI now 1-0 plays host to Foxcroft Academy on Wednesday, December 13th at 7PM.
