MDI Girls Nipped By Presque Isle 50-42

The MDI Girl's Basketball Team was nipped by the Presque Isle Wildcats on Friday, January 28th up in Presque Isle, losing 50-42.

The score was tied 11-11 at the end of the 1st Quarter. For MDI Abbe Miller had 4 points including a 3-pointer. Maddy Good, Maddy Candage and Mariah Hamor each had 2 points for the Trojans. For Presque Isle Emily Wheaton had 6 points with a 3-pointer, Emily Lagerstrom had a 3-pointer and Molly Kingsbury had 2 points.

It was a 1 point game at the end of the 1st Half, with Presque Isle holding a slim 23-22 lead. For Presque Isle, Lagerstrom had 5 points, going 3-3 from the free throw line. Wheaton had 4 points and Skylar Vogel ahd 3 points. For MDI Hannah Chamberlain drained 2 3-pointers for 6 points, Candage had 3 points and Julia Watras had 2 points.

Presque Isle led at the end of the 3rd Quarter 34-26. For Presque Isle, Skylar Vogel was deadly in the paint, scoring 6 points, Wheaton had a 3-pointer, and Madison Michaud and Savannah Rodriguez each chipped in with 1 point from the free throw line. For MDI, Maya Watras had 4 points.

In the 4th Quarter, MDI tried to come back. Maya Watras had 6 points, Julia Watras and Maddy Candage had 4 points each and Abbe Miller had 2 points. For Presque Isle Emily Wheaton had 8 points with 2 3-pointers. Emily Lagerstrom had 5 points with a 3-pointer, Skyler Vogel was 2-3 from the free throw line and Madison Michaud was 1-2 from the free throw line.

MDI was led by Maya Watras with 10 points while Maddy Candage had 9 points. The Trojans were 3-9 from the free throw line.

Presque Isle was led by Emily Wheaton with a game high 21 points. Emily Lagerstrom had 13 points and Skylar Vogel had 11 points. The Wildcats were 12-21 from the free throw line.

MDI is 8-6 and will play Caribou on Saturday, January 28th at 1 PM in a game that will be broadcast on AM 1370 WDEA and WDEA Internet Radio.

Presque Isle is 10-4 and will play host to Ellsworth on Saturday, January 28th at 1 PM.
