MDI Girls Fall to Presque Isle 46-44 [PHOTOS]

It was another tough loss for the MDI Trojans Girls Basketball Team, falling to the Presque Isle Wildcats 46-44 at Bernard Parady Gymnasium in Bar Harbor on Friday, January 24th.

MDI jumped out to a 14-7 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter. Olivia Gray and Rachelle Swanson hit 3-pointers for MDI, with Swanson's coming from the corner with just 4.4 seconds left in the Quarter. Elizabeth Jones had 4 points for MDI, in the paint, and Elena Alderman and Emily Carter had 2 points each. For Presque Isle Anna Jandreau had a 3-pointer and Faith Sjoberg and Libby Moreau each had 2 points.

In the 2nd Quarter Presque Isle outscored MDI 14-4 to take a 21-18 lead at the end of the 1st Half. For the Wildcats Maggie Castonguay had 5 points with a 3-pointer, Meg Casavant had a 3-pointer. Faith Sjoberg drained a NBA distance 3-pointer and Rhylee Kinney had a 2 pointer while Moreau was 1-1 from the free throw line. For MDI Jones had the Trojan's 4 points.

In the 3rd Quarter MDI outscored Presque Isle 15-14 to cut the lead to 2 points, 35-33 at the end of the 3rd Quarter. For the Trojans Jones had 6 points, Leah Carroll had 5 points with a 3-pointer. Olivia Gray had her 2nd 3-pointer of the game and Rachelle Swanson was 1-2 from the free throw line. For Presque Isle Sjoberg hit another deep 3-pointer. Jandreau hit her 2nd 3-pointer, Rebecca Rider had 4 points and Castonguay and Kinney each had 2 points.

In the 4th Quarter Casavant had 5 points for Presque Isle with her 2nd 3-pointer. Sjoberg hit another NBA range 3-pointer. Rider had 2 points and Moreau was 1-2 from the free throw line. For MDI Carroll had her 2nd 3-pointer. Jones, Swanson, Gray and Carter each had 2 points for the Trojans.

MDI was led by Elizabeth Jones with a game high16 points while ripping down 10 rebounds for a double-double. Leah Carroll and Olivia Gray each had 8 points. MDI was 1-2 from the free throw line.

Presque Isle was led by Faith Sjoberg with 11 points while Meg Casavant had 8 points. The Wildcats were 2-7 from the free throw line.

MDI is now 10-5 and will play Caribou in Bar Harbor on Saturday, January 25th at 1p.m. in a game that will be broadcast on AM 1370 WDEA, on WDEA Internet Radio, on our free downloadable APP and on any Alexa enabled device.

Presque Isle, 12-3 will play at Ellsworth on Saturday, January 25th at 1p.m.
