MDI Girls Fall at Buzzer to Presque Isle 41-39

The MDI Girls Basketball Team trailing by 10 points as the 4th Quarter began, 34-24 outscored Presque Isle and tied the score at 39-39 with less than a minute left to go. The Trojans took what could have been the winning shot with 10 seconds left but the shot didn't fall and Presque Isle's Libby Moreau scored the winning basket as the buzzer sounded, giving Presque Isle a 41-39 win in Presque Isle on New Year's Day.

Presque Isle jumped out to a 15-10 win at the end of the 1st Quarter, sinking 3 3's. Anna Jeandreau had 5 points with a 3-pointer, Libby Moreau and Maggie Castonguay each had a 3-pointer and Alana Legassie and Rebecca Rider had 2 points each. For MDI Rachelle Swanson had a 3-pointer, and Emily Carter, Leah Carroll, and Lexi Rich each had 2 points while Elizabeth Jones was 1-2 from the free throw line.

In the 2nd Quarter MDI outscored Presque Isle 7-3 to cut the deficit to 1 point at the Half, 18-17. Elena Alderman had a 3-pointer for MDI while Swanson and Jones each had 2 points. For Presque Isle, Moreau had the Wildcat's 3 points.

In the 3rd Quarter Presque Isle outscored MDI 16-7 to take a 34-24 lead. Catonguay had 5 points with a 3-pointer. Rhylee Kinney and Moreau each had 4 points. Faith Sjoberg drained a 3-pointer. For MDI Alderman had 3 points and Carroll and Swanson 2 points each.

In the 4th Quarter Leah Carroll had 6 points and just missed the game winner. Rachelle Swanson had 5 points and Alderman and Jones 2 points each. For Presque Isle Sjoberg hit another 3-pointer, Rider added 2 points and Moreau the game winner at the buzzer.

MDI was led by Rachelle Swanson with 12 points while Leah Carroll had 10 points. The Trojans were 5-9 from the free throw line.

Presque Isle was led by Libby Moreau with 12 points while Maggie Castonguay had 8 points. Presque Isle was 1-6 from the free throw line.

MDI is now 6-2 and will play at MCI in Pittsfield on Saturday, January 4th at 2:30 in a game that will be broadcast on AM 1370, on WDEA Internet Radio, on our free downloadable APP and on any Alexa enabled device.

Presque Isle, now 7-1 will travel to Waterville on Saturday January 4th to play the Purple Panthers at 4:30
