MDI Girls Beat John Bapst 49-37 [PHOTOS]

The last time the MDI Girls Basketball Team played on the Cross Insurance Center floor, they won the Northern Maine Class B Championships. On Friday night, January 17th they came out flying and beat the John Bapst Crusaders 49-37.

The Trojans took a 14-6 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter. Elizabeth Jones owned the inside, scoring 5 points. Elena Alderman had 4 points, Leah Carroll had a 3-pointer and Rachelle Swanson had 2 points for the Trojans. For John Bapst Kate Harriman had 3 points, Lacey Scanlon 2 points and Syndey Ellis 1 point.

The Trojans made it 30-17 at Halftime, outscoring the Crusaders 16-11 in the 2nd Quarter. Alderman had 5 points with a 3-pointer. Jones added 4 more points. Emily Carter had a 3-pointer and Olivia Gray and Rachelle Swanson each had 2 points. For John Bapst Scanlon had 5 points with a 3-pointer. Jamie McQuarrie and Jenna McQuarrie each had 2 points and Sydney Ellis was 2-2 from the free throw.

In the 3rd Quarter each team scored 7 points, so MDI led 37-24 at the end of the 3rd Quarter. For John Bapst Ellis had 5 points and Scanlon 2 poins. For MDI Jones had 3 points and Alderman had her 2nd 3-pointer.

In the 4th Quarter John Bapst brought the score to within 9, but couldn't get any closer, outscoring MDI 13-12. For MDI Swanson had 8 points going 4-4 from the line and Alderman was 4-4 from the charity stripe. For John Bapst Emily Mock had 7 points including a 3-pointer, Scanlon 4 points and Ellis 2 points.

MDI was led by Elena Alderman with 16 points while Elizabeth Jones had 13 points and Rachelle Swanson 12 points. MDI was 11-14 from the free throw line.

John Bapst was led by Lacey Scanlon with 13 points while Sydney Ellis had 10 points. The Crusaders were 13-19 from the free throw line.

MDI is now 9-4 and will play at Ellsworth on Wednesday, January 22nd with the tipoff at 7p.m. The pregame will start at 6:30 and the game will be broadcast on AM 1370 WDEA, on WDEA Internet Radio, on our free downloadable APP and on any Alexa enabled device.

John Bapst is 7-4 and will play host to Foxcroft Academy on Saturday, January 18th.
