MDI Girls Beat Ellsworth 53-35 [STATS/PHOTOS]

The MDI Girls Basketball Team came to Katsiaficas Gymnasium in Ellsworth in an early test, and beat the Ellsworth Eagles 53-35. The game was close at the end of the 1st Quarter, but then Ellsworth went stone cold from the field in the 2nd and 3rd Quarters.

MDI led 15-10 at the end of the 1st Quarter and 32-17 at the end of the 1st Half. Ellsworth only managed 1 point in the 3rd Quarter, as the Trojans outscored them 12-1 to take a 44-18 lead at the end of the 3rd Quarter.

The Trojans had 3 players in double figures. Olivia Gray led all scorers with 14 points, while Lexi Tozier and Mollie Gray each had 10 points. MDI was only 5-20 from the free throw line. The Trojans sank 8 3-pointers on the night. Olivia Gray had 4 3's, Emily Carter and Lexi Tozier each had 1 3-pointer while Mollie Gray tossed in 2 3's.

Ellsworth had 2 players in double figure. Morgan Clifford led the Eagles with 12 points, while Grace Jaffrey had 11 points. The Eagles were 12-21 from the free throw line. The Eagles had 3 3-pointers on the night. Morgan Clifford had 2 of them, and Grace Jaffrey had the other.

MDI is now 2-0 and will play host to Orono on Friday night, December 17th at 7 p.m. Ellsworth is 1-1 and will play at Houlton on Saturday afternoon, December 18th at 3:30 p.m.
