MDI Girls Basketball Team Stunned by Caribou 33-31

The MDI Girls Basketball Team was stunned by the Caribou Vikings on Saturday, January 25th, as Selena Savage's scoop shot with no time remaining gave the Vikings a 33-31 victory over MDI on Saturday afternoon, January 25th in Bar Harbor.

Paige Espling was a force inside defensively for Caribou, disrupting MDI's gameplan with at least 8 blocked shots on the afternoon

Caribou jumped out to a 6-3 lead in the 1st Quarter. Taylor Skidgel, Paige Espling and Selena Savage each had a basket for Caribou. MDI's lone score came on a Rachelle Swanson 3-pointer.

Caribou led 13-8 at the end of the 1st Half. Espling had 4 points for Caribou with Savage having 2 and Ashlyn Bouchard 1 point, going 1-2 from the free throw line. For MDI Elena Alderman and Emily Carter each had 2 points and Olivia Gray was 1-2 from the free throw line.

MDI finally took the lead for the 1st time 19-17 with 3:58 left in the 3rd Quarter, and led 25-20 at the end of the 3rd Quarter. For MDI Alderman had 6 points, Olivia Gray 5 points with a 3-pointer, Leah Carroll 4 points and Lexi Rich 2 points. For the Vikings Skidgel had 4 points with a 3-pointer, Espling 2 points and Kim Susi 1 point.

In the 4th Quarter it was back and forth for the final 4:30 with the teams taking turn with the lead. Taylor LaBreck had 6 points for Caribou, Emily Collins 2 points and Espling 1 before Savage's game winner. For MDI Swanson and Carroll had 2 points while Alderman also had 2 points, going 2-2 from the line.

MDI was led by Elena Alderman with 10 points while Olivia Gray had 8 points. The Trojans were 5-8 from the free throw line.

Caribou was led by Paige Espling with 9 points while Taylor Skidgel had 8 points. The Vikings were 6-11 from the free throw line.

MDI is now 10-6 with 2 games remaining. They play at Hermon on Monday, February 3rd at 7 p.m. and then close out the regular season on Senior Night, Wednesday, February 5th at 7 p.m. at home against Ellsworth. Both those games will be broadcast on AM 1370 WDEA, on WDEA Internet Radio, on our free downloadable APP and on any Alexa enabled device.

Caribou 6-10 with 2 games remaining. They play at Old Town on Saturday, February 1st at 12:30 and then finish the season at Presque Isle on Wednesday, February 5th.
