MDI Girls Basketball Downs Orono 51-33

The MDI Girls Basketball Team raced out to a 10-0 lead and beat the Orono Red Riots 51-33 in Orono on Thursday, December 19th.

The Trojans led 18-5 at the end of the 1st Quarter. They were paced by Rachelle Swanson with 6 points. Elizabeth Jones had 4 points, Leah Carroll 3 points, Olivia Gray a 3-pointer and Emily Carter with 2 points. For Orono Ellie Peirce had a 3-pointer and Alyssa Labelle 2 points.

MDI increased their lead to 21 points at the Half, 33-12 outscoring the Red Riots 15-7. Leah Carroll had 4 points. Rachelle Swanson, Elena Alderman and Olivia Gray each had a 3-pointer while Emily Carter had 2 points. For Orono Chloe LaBree had 3 points while Lauryn Brown and Izzy Baker each had 2 points.

Orono outscored MDI 12-11 in the 3rd Quarter, but MDI led 42-24. Alyssa Labelle had 7 points, while Ellie Pierce 5 points with a 3-pointer. For MDI Alderman had a 3-pointer while Carter, Carroll and Jones each had 2 points.

In the 4th Quarter Emily Carter had 5 points for MDI with a 3-pointer. Alderman and Carroll each had 2 points. For Orono LaBree had 4 points while Labelle had a 3-pointer and Brown had 2 points.

MDI was led by Emily Carter and Leah Carroll each with 11 points while Rachelle Swanson had 9 points. MDI was 1-8 from the free throw line.

Orono was led by Alyssa Labelle with a game high 12 points while Ellie Peirce had 8 points. The Red Riots were 4-7 from the free throw line.

MDI improved to 4-1 on the season and plays host to MCI on Saturday, December 21st at 1 p.m. That game will be broadcast on AM 1370 WDEA, on WDEA Internet Radio, on our free downloadable APP and on any Alexa enabled device
