MDI Girls Basketball Team Falls to Houlton 48-43

The MDI Girls Basketball Team fell to Houlton on Saturday, December 7th in Houlton in the opening game of the season 48-43 in a back and forth contest.

Houlton took a 6-5 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter. Mia Henderson had a 3-pointer for Houlton while Teagan Ewings had 2 points and Kennedy Buzzeo was 1-2 from the free throw line. For MDI Elena Alderman and Olivia Gray each had 2 points and Elizabeth Jones was 1-2 from the free throw line.

In the 2nd Quarter MDI outscored Houlton 20-15 to take a 25-21 lead at the end of the 1st Half. Emily Carter had 7 points for MDI with a 3-pointer. Jones had 5 points, Rachelle Swanson 4 points, Leah Carroll and Alderman each had 2 points. For Houlton Ewings had 8 points, Olivia Henderson 5 points with a 3-pointer and Mia Henderson and Rebecca Howe each were 1-2 from the free throw line.

In the 3rd Quarter Houlton outscored MDI 12-7 to take a 33-32 lead. Mia Henderson had 5 points with a 3-pointer, Rebecca Howe had 4 points and Teagan Ewing had 2 points. For MDI Leah Carroll had 5 points with a 3-pointer and OIivia Gray chipped in 2 points.

In the 4th Quarter the Shiretowners were 8-15 from the free throw line. Mia Henderson had 6 points with a 3-pointer. Ewings was 3-6 from the free throw line. Abbie Worthley hit 2 key free throws. Howe chipped in 2 points and Olivia Henderson was 2-2 from the line. For MDI Rachelle Swanson had 6 points, Carroll 4 points and Gray was 1-2 from the free throw line

MDI was led by Leah Carroll with 11 points and Rachelle Swanson had 10 points. The Trojans were 7-15 from the free throw line.

Houlton was led by Teagan Ewings and Mia Henderson each who had 15 points. The Shiretowners were 12-25 from the free throw line.

MDI 0-1 will play host to John Bapst on Tuesday, December 10th at 7 p.m.

Houlton, 1-0 will play at Presque Isle on Tuesday, December 10th at 7 p.m.
